Information

CLAIMS
Claims involving automobile accidents are administered jointly between the Office of Risk Management (for damage to Yale vehicles) and an outside Third Party Claims Administration company (for injury or damage caused to outside parties) with oversight provided by The Office of Risk Management.  Information on what to do if you are involved in an auto accident, can be found below under "Forms".

DEDUCTIBLES

Departments will be charged a deductible of $500 per accident if the Yale driver involved was not considered to be a regular driver, or is a regular driver who has taken and passed the Driver Safety Awareness Class. The deductible charged to the department will be doubled to $1,000 per accident if the Yale driver involved was a regular driver and has not passed the Driver Safety Awareness class. Please click here for additional information.

USE OF PERSONAL VEHICLES

In the event of an accident while using your personal vehicle for official University business, YOUR auto insurance is always PRIMARY, and the University's insurance is EXCESS of your primary limits for damages to a third party.

STUDENT DRIVERS

All students are required to take and pass the Driver Safety Awareness class in order to be covered under Yale University’s Automobile Insurance when driving Yale owned or rented vehicles.   Click here for more information.

For further information or questions regarding Yale's auto policies, please contact Pete LeMay at 432-6606 or peter.lemay@yale.edu
