Direct
Deposit FAQs
What
is direct deposit and where can I have my Payroll payments deposited?
Direct deposit
delivers your Yale University paycheck into your bank, financial
institution, or credit union’s account quickly and safely.
Yale University’s bank will send an electronic message to
your bank, financial institution or credit union crediting your
account with the exact amount of your Yale University Payroll payment.
You can deposit your net pay into you checking or savings account
in any national bank, credit union or financial institution that
is a participating member of the National Automated Clearing House
Association. (NACHA).
What
are the benefits of direct deposit?
There are
no checks to be lost, stolen or forged. You will get your payment
on time, even if you are out of town, sick or unable to get to the
bank.
Is
there a cost for direct deposit?
Direct Deposit
is a free service offered by Yale University and most financial
institutions.
If
I sign up for Direct Deposit, how can I be sure that no one will
have access to my account?
Direct deposit
is a confidential way to send and receive payments. Although Yale
University does have a limited ability to reverse direct deposit
payments made in error, on average, fewer people see your account
information with direct deposits than with checks.
Can
my direct deposit be split between different banks and/or accounts?
No, at this
time, that option is not available.
How
do I sign up for direct deposit?
Direct deposit
forms may be completed at the Payroll Department or may be obtained
online at
http://www.yale.edu/ppdev/Payroll/PaycheckOptions/forms.htm.
When
should I notify the Payroll Department of cancellation of direct
deposit, bank change or a closed account?
You must notify
the Payroll Department immediately with any changes to your
direct deposit. You must complete a new form with all changes. If
you fail to notify the Payroll Department when you change account
numbers or close an account, all funds already submitted to the
bank will not be available to you until such funds are returned
to Yale University from the bank.
It is
my pay date and my direct deposit is not in my bank account, what
should I do?
The
Payroll Department transmits direct deposits to our Automated Clearing
House for disbursement to banks at least two days prior to each
pay date. Your direct deposit should be posted by end of business
on your pay date. If not, please contact your
bank directly.
I
am a casual employee at the University, may I have my payments direct
deposited to my bank?
YES.
All employees and students that receive payments through the Payroll
Department can elect to have their payments direct deposited to
their bank accounts.
