In some cases, trees were not recorded in either the January
or March data. Many of these were dead or snags, suggesting that a dead
tree more easily escapes attention than a live tree. Also, many of the
missing trees had very small dbhs and could have been left out of the record
on one of the days because the measurement may have been below 4.6, our
cutoff value. A third possibility for the missing trees may be that they
were thought to be in the adjacent transect (Transect 2) on one day of
data collection and thought to be in Transect 1 on the other day. Otherwise,
the measurements and vigor assessments were very close between the two
days.
