Storm Patterns

This image of storm tracks across the U.S. shows how air movement patterns concentrate air pollutants in the Northeast.  Though many metals settle out near the emission source, others enter the atmosphere as aerosols and can travel great distances (Schlesigner et. al. 1974).  As a result, the New England area has higher levels of acid rain and surface accumulation of pollutants.
