A multi-branched, high spreading, low tree, around 40 ft. tall, with visibly yellow twigs.

BUDS: Red-brown; false end buds

TWIGS: Yellow; slender

BARK: Light brown and smooth; becoming furrowed

HABITAT: Drought resistant and hardy for city growth; warm, dry areas; native of CHina but widely cultivated across the U.S.

USES: Introduced for silkworm production in southeastern U.S.--leaves are the main food for silkworms.
