Dwarf Juniper
Juniperus communis


                                          Low native shrub with both male and female plants. Females bear fleshy blue cones. "Classic" early successional species.

LEAVES: In whorls of three; all needlelike; sharp pointed.

BARK: Thin, dark reddish-brown, scaly or exfoliating in small strips.

HABITAT: Characteristic of early successional, open disturbed forests.  Seeds are spread widely by birds.
