High Bush Blueberry
Vaccinium corymbosium


This tall shrub producing large blue to blue-black fruits is the only head-high species of blueberry north of New Jersey, growing up to 12 ft. tall.

BUDS: Red or brown buds; tiny bud scales with long, tapered tips; false end buds.

TWIGS: Long and slender; may be hairy; green or reddish.

BARK: Shreddy.

HABITAT: Wetlands; acidic soils.

USES: This species of blueberry is the basic stock of many cultivated varieties.
