This shrub has a biennial cane that roots at the tips and is armed with strong, hooked prickles.

TWIGS: Purplish, with glaucous bloom.

HABITAT: Forming dense thickets.

RANGE: Quebec to Minnesota, south to Georgia and Colorado.

USES: The source of commercial black raspberry.
