June 28 - July 17, 2009: The YCFC Reconciliation Program is co-hosting, along with the New Haven-based nonprofit Pathways for Mutual Respect, The Summer Institute for Islam, Intercultural Relations and Leadership. The curriculum for the professional development institute infuses relevant scholarship with leadership training and the opportunity to learn from our core faculty's decades of combined experience working and living in the Islamic world. The unique curriculum is designed to equip leaders, scholars, and educators of all backgrounds to engage their professional, academic, and faith communities on issues of reconciliation and peacebuilding. Faculty for the event includes the Reconciliation Program’s Associate Director Dr. Andrew Saperstein and Postgraduate Fellow Melissa Yarrington. Link to additional information.

June 16-17, 2009 | Andrew Saperstein presented a paper at the Global Leadership Forum 2009: “Evangelicals and Muslims,” Washington, D.C. The event was hosted by Georgetown University’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. The forum hosted a conversation between Muslims and Evangelicals about their deepest differences as well as their shared values and concerns. It featured three conversations, organized thematically around the concepts of respect, reconciliation and religious freedom. Dr. Saperstein’s presentation focused on reconciliation. The event was open to the public.
