Cosponsored by the Yale Center for Faith and Culture, Sojourners, Christianity Today, and The Christian Century, the symposium featured debates among forty leading scholars, clergy, journalists, politicians, and authors on the most pressing issues facing our country and world. June 26-28, 2007 | Centenary Celebration of Lutheran Campus Ministry, Chicago, Illinois. Chris Scharen was one of two keynote speakers for this national celebration of the 100th anniversary of Lutheran campus ministry.

June 22-24, 2007 | Leaders Offline III, Fargo, North Dakota. David Miller led a group of CEOs in a retreat weekend for a case study and theological reflection on the challenges and opportunities of marketplace leadership.

June 22, 2007 | The Concordia College Center for Ethical Leadership, Moorhead, Minnesota. David Miller presented a special dialogue session on living our faith in the business world.

April 25, 2007 | ACGME, Chicago, Illinois. Chris Scharen attended a meeting with national leaders on graduate professional medical education aiming to compare formation in professional training between medicine and ministry.

April 23-24, 2007 | Muslim, Christian, and Jewish Views on the Creation of Wealth, University of Notre Dame. David Miller gave a paper and participated in this interfaith conference on religious perspectives on the creation of wealth, sponsored by the Mendoza College of Business at the Hesburgh Center Auditorium, University of Notre Dame.

April 21-22, 2007 | Miroslav Volf at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas. Miroslav Volf led classes on “The Art of Giving” and “The Art of Forgiving.” He preached at two Sunday services, and, in the afternoon, led a class on “Suffering and Memory.”

April 12, 2007 | Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. Chris Scharen presented a lecture on “Living Heaven on Earth: Faith and U2” for the Lutheran Campus Ministry at Washington University.

April 11, 2007 | Public Voices/Public Faith. Miroslav Volf, Henry B. Wright Professor of Systematic Theology, presented the lecture “Problems and Promise of a Public Theology.”

March 13-23, 2007 | Scholar-in-Residence at Wolfsberg, in Ermatingen, Switzerland. David Miller served as Scholar-in-Residence at Wolfsberg, the Union Bank of Switzerland’s institute for executive and professional development. David participated in a “think tank” on leadership and ethics, gave guest lectures at area business schools, conduct research, and met with Swiss business executives.

March 3-4, 2007 | Edina Community Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Chris Scharen presented the lecture “Even Better than the Real Thing” to open the spring series on Music, Media & Marketing. The evening lecture opened with music from the Minneapolis area playing their favorite U2 songs.

February 28-March 2, 2007 | Lilly Practical Theology Meeting, St. John’s Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota. Chris Scharen attended this small working seminar of leading practical theologians nationwide who seek to envigorate this field of research and writing for the sake of vital discipleship in and for the sake of the world.

March 1, 2007 | Miroslav Volf, keynote speaker at this year’s conference of the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The conference topic was “Centering in Christ, Open to the Spirit.”

February 23-24, 2007 | Second Annual Yale Christian MBA Conference. The Center's Ethics and Spirituality program again partnered with the Yale School of Management Christian Fellowship Club to sponsor the second annual Christian MBA Conference. The goal was to discuss practical and conceptual ways to integrate faith and work. The target audience was MBA students and fellowship group leaders from MBA programs across the nation. The conference featured presentations by and interactions with various CEOs (including Steve Reinemund, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo). Panels and other group discussions grappled with the ethical, career and other business issues facing MBAs as they enter the workforce.
