New Business Manager Reporting Relationships effective July 1, 2007; Murphy named new Associate Vice President for Business Operations
(April 18, 2007)As part of the ongoing effort to enhance financial and administrative support of departments, Shauna King, Vice President for Finance and Administration, announced today that effective July 1, 2007, all Business Managers (lead department administrators) will have a reporting line to her in addition to their current reporting line to the Dean, Director, or Chair of their units.
Ms. King notes that “President Levin, Provost Hamilton, and I have had a number of conversations with Deans, Directors, Chairs, and other leaders over the past months to discuss the importance of this change and how to make it successful. All of us see this connection between central and department business managers as a major opportunity to improve the quality of administrative support to faculty, students, and staff, while enhancing Business Managers’ key leadership role and their close relationship with and ability to effectively support their departments.”
To support this change, Ms. King has created the position of Associate Vice President for Business Operations, reporting directly to her and responsible for improving the quality of financial and administrative services for faculty, students, and staff across all academic and administrative departments, school, and units at Yale University.
She is pleased to announce that Stephen Murphy has accepted this new position. Mr. Murphy has built a reputation as an effective change leader at Yale, having served most recently as the leader of the 100-day plan to improve research administration. To support his new position, Mr. Murphy will have seven senior administrators on his leadership team.

Expanded Sick Time Policy 10-25-05
In these changing times, balancing the responsibilities of work and life is a challenge that staff members face on a regular basis. The University recognizes that sometimes a family member's illness or injury requires a staff or faculty member's care and time away from work. Until now, caring for ill children or parents required that a staff member use his or her personal or vacation time that had been accumulated through the University’s generous paid time off benefits. Yale is pleased to announce an expansion of the sick time policy that allows staff to use accrued sick time for the care of an eligible family member. more...
