Funding and Fellowship Opportunities available to all Yale College Students interested in Environmental issues Yale Student Grants Database - Students are encouraged to begin searches for grants and fellowships by using the Yale Student Grants Database. Udall Scholarship Program - $5,000 scholarship for U.S. citizens; juniors or seniors who study the environment or Native American and Alaska Native students who are in fields related to health care or tribal public policy. Deadline is typically in early-February. Yale Hixon Center for Urban Ecology Student Research Award - The Hixon Center offers opportunities to students and faculty interested in research, internships, scholarships or career options in Urban Forestry or related fields. Deadline is typically in early-March. Yale Science and Engineering Research - Original research is an integral part of undergraduate science education at Yale. Academic year and summer research opportunities bring classroom concepts to life and prepare Yale students for postgraduate training and careers in the sciences and engineering. The YSER (Yale Science and Engineering Research) Program provides access to research opportunities via the YSER web site, YSER workshops and YSER-sponsored programs for the support of undergraduate research. Yale provides a variety of programs tailored to the individual needs of students, ranging from interdepartmental programs such as STARS and Perspectives on Science and Engineering to departmentally-based programs and other opportunities to perform research in the laboratories of faculty throughout Yale University.
Top | Main Environmental Resources Page Fellowship and Scholarship Opportunities - for graduating seniors Cohen Public Service Fellowship - Yale has long been proud of the commitment to community service both by its students and by its alumni. In honor of that tradition, the Cohen Public Service Fellowship was established to support up to a full year of purposeful public service activity. Although the Fellowship is open to applicants wishing to pursue public service in the United States, international projects are preferred. Priority will be given to graduating seniors wishing to pursue year-long projects; however, students may also apply for funds to support a summer project between their junior and senior year. Up to $10,000 may be available during any one year for support of a Cohen Fellowship(s). Deadline is typically in late-January. Daad Annual Grants: Graduate Study Scholarships - Study Scholarships are awarded to highly-qualified graduating seniors (fourth-year students in Canada), recent graduates who have completed their Bachelor's degrees and graduate students of all disciplines to provide the opportunity for a year of independent study or a full graduate degree program at a German university. Deadline is typically early-mid November. Fox International Fellowships - The Fox International Fellowship Program supports research exchanges between Yale and the Free University of Berlin, Moscow State University, Sidney Sussex College of Cambridge University, The University of Tokyo Graduate School, Fudan University in Shanghai, PRC, Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, El Colegio de Mexico, Jawarhalal Nehru University in Delhi, Bogazici University in Istanbul, Tel Aviv University, and Cape Town Univeristy for graduating seniors, graduate and professional school students conducting independent research on topics related to economics, political science, international relations, law, business and finance, environmental policy, or contemporary history. All fellowships provide expenses for airfare, a stipend for living expenses, as well as some in-country travel related to research. Priority is for a full academic year, although single term awards are possible. Deadline is typically in late-February. Fulbright Grants - Eligible are U.S. citizens who will hold at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent prior to undertaking the grant. Most grants are awarded for programs of study or research that require one academic year. Deadline is typically early-mid September. The Gordon Grand Fellowship - Eligible are Yale graduating seniors. The fellowship will support a year (nine to twelve months) of purposeful travel, research, or work abroad or in the United States. Proposals should engage in some way with the private sector and should foster a heightened awareness of the issues that will shape the business world of the future. The award may not be used to pay for tuition, but a candidate may plan to pursue an apprenticeship or internship that would not ordinarily be funded. Multiple awards may be made. Deadline is typically in late-January. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship Program - The Foundation intends to award approximately 40 scholarships to outstanding students who will attend graduate or professional school for the first time in the fall of 2008. Each scholarship will cover tuition, required fees, and living costs for the length of the graduate program, up to six years (maximum scholarship is $50,000/year). Yale is invited to nominate two candidates to the national competition. Eligible are graduating Seniors and Yale College alumni who graduated no earlier than May 2003. U.S. citizenship is not required. All candidates must be accepted into a full-time graduate degree program at an accredited university in the United States or abroad. Top | Main Environmental Resources Page Henry Hart Rice Foreign Residence Fellowships - The Henry Hart Rice Foreign Residence Fellowships, made possible by a generous gift from Mr. Rice, are designed to support students in the humanities and social sciences for work, research, or independent study in a country that has strained relations with the United States. Projects should involve a stay of 9-12 months. At present, eligible are countries of Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Europe that are not members of the European Union (EU), Turkey, the Caucasus, Russia, Latin America, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia as well as the People's Republic of China. Eligible are undergraduates who will have completed at least two years of course work, including graduating Seniors. Deadline is typically in early-February. Keasbey Scholarships - Eligible are graduating Seniors who are U.S. citizens. The Keasbey Memorial Foundation awards scholarships to support two years of study at selected British universities. For study beginning in academic year 2008-2009, the institutions open to American Keasbey Scholars are: Oxford-Balliol, Christ Church, Hertford, New, Trinity, and University Colleges; Cambridge-King's and Selwyn; the University of Edinburgh; and the University of Wales. Yale College is one of a select group of American institutions periodically invited to nominate three candidates to the national competition. Deadline is typically in early-October. Luce Scholars Program - The Henry Luce Foundation annually selects eighteen Luce Scholars in various fields to participate in one-year internships in the Far East. Yale is invited to nominate three candidates to the national competition. Eligible are graduating Seniors, graduate and professional school students, recent graduates, and junior faculty. Nominees must be U.S. citizens who by September 1 of the year in which they would enter the program will be no more than twenty-nine years of age and will have earned a bachelor's degree. Deadline is typically early-mid October. Marshall Scholarships - Up to forty Marshall Scholarships are awarded annually to U.S. citizens for two years of study in any discipline, at either the undergraduate or graduate level, leading to the award of a British university degree. Deadline is typically in late-August. Parker Huang Undergraduate Travel Fellowships - Eligible are students in Yale College who are U.S. citizens and who will have at least Junior standing by the beginning date of the award. Graduating Seniors are eligible to apply. The Fellowship supports 9-12 months of residency abroad. The Fellowships are awarded each year to students who plan to study or work in non-English-speaking countries. First preference is given to proposals for projects in China; thereafter, elsewhere in Asia (East, Southeast, and South Asia), Africa or other regions (such as Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, Russia, Latin America, or the Middle East). Deadline is typically in mid-February. Samuel Huntington Public Service Award - The Samuel Huntington Public Service Award provides a $10,000 stipend for a graduating college senior to pursue one year of public service anywhere in the world. The award allows recipients to engage in a meaningful public service activity for one year before proceeding on to graduate school or a career. Deadline is typically in mid-February. William Simon Fellowship for Noble Purpose - Supports graduating college seniors who have demonstrated passion, dedication, a high capacity for self-direction, and originality in pursuit of a goal that will strengthen civil society. Three awards are made: one at $40,000 and two at $5,000 each. Deadline is typically in mid-February.
