Wui Seng is a doctoral student working with Professor Menachem Elimelech. Wui Seng's research focuses on the chemical cleaning of organic-fouled reverse osmosis membranes in wastewater reclamation applications. The use of RO membranes in advanced wastewater reclamation that uses secondary treated wastewater effluent to produce water for indirect potable use has increased in recent years. However, a major impediment to the application of RO membrane technology for wastewater reclamation is membrane fouling, especially when caused by effluent organic matter present in the feedwater. Despite the many preventive strategies, membrane fouling is inevitable. A long-term solution to fouling would be to remove the foulant deposited on membrane surfaces via chemical cleaning.
Wui Seng is currently on study leave from the Public Utilities Board (PUB) in Singapore. Prior to joining the Environmental Engineering Program at Yale, he worked as an engineer at PUB where he was in charge of approving water reticulation drawings of new developments submitted by professional engineers, and coordinating and liaising with government agencies and consultants on planning, design and implementation of water mains to ensure timely provision of water supply to new developments in Singapore.
Wui Seng enjoys spending time with his family, especially his daughter, Yanling. Wui Seng also collects American antique and vintage clocks as a hobby.
