Juishan Yong Ph.D. Candidate, Environmental Engineering, Yale University
|
Shan is a second year student at the Environmental Engineering Program at Yale. For her first year at Yale, Shan studied solute transport and rejection in the forward osmosis process. She worked on quantifying the rates of draw solute transport whilst varying the feed and draw solution concentrations. For her Ph.D research, Shan will work on performance characterization of the forward osmosis process. Shan previously graduated with a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in 2000 and a Masters in Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2001. She is adjusting well to school life and research after a 7 year hiatus during which she was working for two Singapore conglomerates, doing business development in power and utilities, environmental management as well environmental technologies and green building design. She chose Yale as the Environmental Engineering Program as Yale has managed to create such a win-win situation for industry and academia, whilst equipping their students with a top notch education. Shan is an avid fan of badminton and spinning and believes that on the path to great Ph.D research, a healthy mind and body is key.
