Dr. Jessica D. Schiffman is currently a Postdoctoral Associate working with Prof. Menachem Elimelech in the Environmental Engineering Program and Chemical Engineering Department at Yale University.

Before arriving at Yale, Dr. Schiffman completed her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University under the guidance of Prof. Schauer. Her dissertation work focused on the fabrication and characterization of biopolyelectrolyte-composite nanofibrous membranes. This work has yielded 12 co-authored publications and 1 patent. Dr. Schiffman has received Drexel’s Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award and was named “Best of the MatPac” based upon her graduate research. She received an NSF-Lindau fellowship to attend the meeting of Nobel laureates and her winning entry in the NSF/AAAS International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge was published in Science, as well as in numerous other prestigious journals internationally.

Currently, Dr. Schiffman is interested in incorporating functionalized electrospun nanofibers into novel membranes for desalination and sustainable water purification. Additionally, she is interested in characterizing the geometry and chemistry of support layers to determine their influence on osmoticflux performance.
