INTERESTS: 20th and 21st century world literature in English; postcolonial studies and globalization; literature and writing pedagogy

I write and teach about contemporary Anglophone fiction from Africa, South Asia, Europe, and North America.  I am especially interested in how literature participates in imagining newly emerging forms of collective allegiance and action that cross traditional boundaries of nation and ethnicity.  I am currently completing a book manuscript, Spaces of Refuge: Postnational Community in Contemporary World Literatures in English, which examines the ethics and aesthetics of fictional representations of communities established in the wake of civil violence.  I also investigate literature and writing pedagogies that encourage practices of critical thinking, reading, and writing in a global context.
