Yale University Summer SessionAs Director of Yale’s English Language Institute, I am pleased to share with you our brochure for Summer 2008. I hope this overview of our programs will answer your questions and provide you with a strong sense of the many opportunities Yale offers during the summer for international students. We invite you to share an exciting time in the history of this university-a period in which Yale continues to expand its role as an international university and as a center where many cultures connect and exchange ideas. The university has a strong tradition of encouraging and supporting international students, and their importance to the university has never been greater than today. Being a student in the summer English Language Institute will enable you to benefit from and contribute to this period of growth. Yale’s six-week programs provide a distinctive opportunity to study and experience life in a vibrant and lively part of the United States. Our students have expressed their pleasure at living on the Yale campus and participating in academic and social programs with Yale undergraduates and other international students. Many describe the summer at Yale as an unforgettable time in their lives. The participation of students from countries around the world enriches the educational experience that Yale offers during the summer. We invite you to become part of this community of students, each of whom brings a variety of perspectives, values and beliefs while sharing a desire for greater understanding of each other. I hope many of you will choose to study at Yale, and my faculty and I look forward to getting to know many of you in the months ahead. Jan Dougherty Hortas
