Medical School Laboratory Biomedical Waste Orientation
Most biomedical waste generated at the School of Medicine is treated on-site through Environmental Health & Safety's auto-clave shredder.
The training provided (see link below) describes how you should be handling and packaging biomedical waste for disposal in the School of Medicine.
These procedures are necessary to comply with Connecticut law, protect you and waste handlers, and prevent needle-sticks,
leaks, damage to the autoclave-shredder and environment. The procedures here apply to the laboratories at Yale's medical school campus.
Please contact EHS for laboratory waste disposal procedures that apply to central and west campus.
