Coming to Yale ?

Welcome to Yale University! As a member of the University community, you have safety responsibilities to yourself, your co-workers, the public and our environment. How you work can have a major influence on others, so always consider your actions in terms of how they might impact yourself and others, and what steps are necessary to prevent harm or injury.

As a follow-up to your recruitment, identify known workplace hazards and any potentially harmful exposures with your supervisor. Become familiar with and observe established safety requirements and procedures for your work area, use any required protective equipment, and report unsafe conditions to your supervisor or our office. Please also note that attendance at mandatory training sessions is required by a variety of governmental regulations and University policy. Successful completion of initial and any required periodic refresher training thereafter is an on-going condition of your employment here at Yale University.

Get to know us better by visiting one of our hallway safety bulletin boards or by stopping by our main office at 135 College Street. As a new employee, you will also begin receiving our quarterly safety newsletter.

If you will be bringing equipment, supplies, or research materials with you to Yale, please contact your search committee chairperson, project manager, or business manager in advance to review University policies on property and safety clearances. If you will be bringing any hazardous materials or equipment potentially contaminated with such materials, please also contact the Office of Environmental Health & Safety for assistance (203-785-3550). You may also want to review the University's Restricted Items Policy in advance (www.yale.edu/procurement/ or www.yale.edu/ppdev/policy/3220/3220.pdf).

Again, welcome to Yale University and our best wishes for a challenging and rewarding experience here.
