A Principle Investigator leaving the University or leaving a laboratory is responsible for:

  • Removing all chemicals and biological materials from the laboratory and disposing of the materials appropriately.
  • Properly packaging, processing and making arrangements for the removal of all chemical and biomedical waste
  • Decontaminating all potentially contaminated equipment, appliances and instruments and applying a Biological Safety Notice to the decontaminated equipment.
  • Removing and/or discarding all unwanted supplies

It is the responsibility of the individual investigator to obtain a Biological/Chemical Safety Clearance from EHS before leaving Yale University. EHS is available to assist the investigator throughout the clearance process.
