Medical Surveillance Requirements
Occupational health services and medical surveillance are provided by the Employee Health Department at University Health Services, 17 Hillhouse Avenue , 432-0071. Please review Yale University 's "Medical Surveillance Requirements".
Yale University Employees who suffer injury or occupational exposure to biological materials should seek prompt medical assistance within one hour at University Health Services Urgent Visit Clinic (432-0123), 17 Hillhouse Avenue . Follow the exposure response information provided on "Yale University Incident Exposure Card" for initial treatment of the wound or exposure. Call or have someone from the lab group call ahead to alert Health Services of the incident.
Medical area employees who experience an occupational exposure to
human blood, bloodborne pathogens or other potentially
infectious material, may seek medical assistance at Yale
New Haven Hospital's Personnel Health Service (688-2462)
located in the CCSS Building, 20 York Street, from 7:30
AM - 4:00 PM or at the Yale New Haven Hospital Emergency
Room (688-2222) after hours.
Regardless of initial medical response location, all Yale University employees must receive follow up with the Department of Employee Health at University Health Services, 17 Hillhouse Avenue . Please call 432-0071 if you have any questions.
Employees in other campus areas should proceed directly to University Health Services for medical assistance.
Although a Department Head's Report of Injury or Illness must be completed and sent to University Health Services, employees do not have to bring it with them to the initial visit (it can be sent to UHS within 24 hours - it is needed for post exposure evaluation only). Employees should report immediately for medical follow-up after initially washing the affected area and notifying their supervisor.
