Transfer or shipment of newly synthesized or imported chemical substances for which limited environmental,health, or safety data exist
The EPA requires that individuals that either import or synthesize chemicals in their laboratories, including carbon nanotubules, or obtain them from other laboratories, maintain control over them and ensure that individuals that they distribute these substances to understand the known health, safety and environmental risks associated with the substance.Whenever hand carrying an imported chemical or a chemical synthesized in your laboratory (for which little or no environmental, health, or safety data is available) the following procedures must be followed:
- Complete the "TSCA Chemical Substance Transfer Form" and "Preliminary Health and Safety Information Sheet" (links to Adobe pdf formatted documents can be found in right margin) for the chemical substances to be transferred and provide both forms to the researcher receiving the substances.
- Maintain a copy of these documents in your laboratory's TSCA folder or binder for 3 years from the transfer date.
- Complete a "Research Material Shipment Request"
- Complete the "TSCA Chemical Substance Transfer Form" and "Preliminary Chemical Health and Safety Information Sheet".
- Maintain copies of the forms and any associated shipping paperwork in your laboratory's TSCA folder or binder for 3 years from the shipment date.
- Forward all 3 forms to EHS for review via email to ehshazmat@yale.edu and do not ship the material until you receive a response from EHS.
