Exportation of Chemical Substances Out of the United States
When chemical substances on the EPA Chemical Export Notification List are exported out of the United States, the EPA must be notified in writing. In some instances the notification is a "one time" notification and in other cases the EPA must be notified annually. If you are exporting a chemical to a foreign country, download and search the"EPA Chemical Export Notification List" (approximately 1,500 items) for which notification is required. This list can be found in a variety of formats in the left margin and contains many common laboratory chemicals. If the chemical substance you are exporting is on the list, a notification is necessary. Contact the EHS TSCA Coordinator for assistance in making the notification.
If you are exporting chemicals that have been previously imported or have been synthesized in the lab (for which little or no health, safety or environmental information exists) please do the following:
- Complete a "Research Materials Shipment Request"
- Complete the "TSCA Chemical Substance Transfer Form"
- Complete the "Preliminary Chemical Health and Safety Information Sheet"
- Maintain copies of the forms and any associated shipping paperwork in your laboratory's TSCA folder or binder for 3 years from the export date.
- Forward all three forms to EHS for review via email to ehshazmat@yale.edu for review and do not ship the material until you receive a response from EHS.
