Connecting
to the Campus Network
This section
describes network connection options for faculty and staff on central
campus.
Connections
at the School of Medicine are administered by School
Of Medicine Desktop Support
Student Residence Connections (Old Campus, Residential Colleges, Helen
Hadley Hall, Hall of Graduate Studies) are administered by ITS
Academic Media & Technology
DNO provides
Ethernet connections in campus buildings.
Ethernet operates at 10 and 100 megabits/second and is the preferred type
of connection. It is available for Windows, Macintosh and Unix workstations.
100 megabit/second Ethernet ("Fast Ethernet") is considerably
more expensive than standard Ethernet and will not necessarily result
in noticeably improved performance. DNO will provide an analysis and recommendation
for those interested in Fast Ethernet connections.
Connectivity for departmental LANs is also available. Contact joseph.paolillo@yale.edu
for additional information.
Dial-up access
is available to connect to the Yale Network from off campus locations.
PPP (Point To Point Protocol) provides TCP/IP access
for Windows, Macintosh and Unix workstations at 56Kb using the v.90 and
K56Flex protocols. All standard speeds (33.6Kb to 300b) are supported as
well.
An in-depth description of these services and machine requirements is available
through Remote Access Support .
