NOV.2-NOV.30 2001, 149 YORK ST. Two Weeks
in Turkey: A photographic investigation
Photographer Anya Sammler and DMCA
Curator Ken Lovell combined to present an
exhibit pairing and comparing traditional
photography and printing. The
photographer has also exhibited at the
Black & White Gallery, VA, The Mingaloo
Gallery, DC, The Elipse Gallery, VA, and
the Indigo Crow, CT. Curator Lovell is
the DMCA master printer.
JUNE 1-AUG. 30, 149 YORK ST. DMCA Print
Exhibition Selected faculty and student
works from the DMCA Digital Print
Collection. Curator: Ken Lovell.
JUNE 15-JUNE 29, 149 YORK ST. Virtual
Elvis Associate Artist Gregory Garvey,
exhibited an interactive installation.
Employing 3D programs such as Maya and
Face2Face for facial tracking, Garvey's
Virtual-Elvis comments on the state of
being digital.
MAY 9 Speaking Volumes-The Wallenberg Gate
Project Sculptor Issac Witkin and media
specialist Steven Marcus presented their
computer process and 3D prototype for a
memorial sculpture for Raoul Wallenberg--
the Swedish Diplomat whose efforts saved
over 100,000 Jews in the final years of
WWII.
APRIL 26 Gloria A multi-media concert
developed as a DMCA Special Project Grant
by Jack Vees (Yale School of Music) with
video scenery by DMCA Director Carol
Scully performed as part of the New Music
Series at Sprague Hall.
APRIL 21Abstracted Cisms Cyber Cafe The
DMCA transformed into a cybercafe for
Kathryn Alexander's interactive concert.
Percussionist Tim Feeney and vocalist
Richard Lalli performed against an
interactive backdrop comprised of
computer generations based on Willem
DeKoonig's Untitled XIII.
APRIL 21-MAY 30Digital Art Exhibition The
first invitational DMCA art show features
student and faculty digital prints and an
electronic montage of digital projects.
APRIL 20 Art for Yale: Defining Moments
YUAG Exhibit features two documentaries
depicting the contributions of both the
architecture and the people who've
contributed to the gallery. The videos
were produced by DMCA Director, Carol
Scully, in collaboration with YUAG's
curators Helen Cooper and Robin Jaffee
Frank.
April 11 Interactive Tools for Music and
Technology Kathryn Alexander, DUS, Dept.
of Music at Yale, discussed the
development of her interactive
composition, Abstracted Cisms.
April 9 Seeing Saarinen:Two Photographers
Views A documentary co-produced by DMCA
Director Carol Scully and Curator Dean
Sakamoto featuring commentary by Ezra
Stoller and Balthazar Korab accompanies a
show of the photographers works: April 9-
May 4 Architecture Gallery, 180 York St.
April 4 Face of the Arts Project
investigators Scott Campbell, Matthew
Seidel, and Robert Genova, provided an
overview of the CD-ROM they are creating
to archive the Arts Buildings at Yale.
MARCH 21 The Talking Heads Richard Gan's
presented the LIPS System he designed to
create three dimensional spokesfigures.
FEBRUARY 28 Desperately seeking v-elvis
Gregory Garvey, previously Chair of
Design Art at Concordia University and a
Fellow at MIT Center for Advanced Visual
Studies, presented 3D models and
animations he developed using Maya,
AlterEgo, and Face2Face software.
FEBRUARY 21 Creating the Documentary DMCA
Associate Artists and founders of
"American Beat" Elihu Rubin and Elena
Oxman conducted a symposium on developing
the documentary style.
FEBRUARY 14 Mobile Video Technology Taylor
Krauss, recipient of the DMCA Yale Mobile
Media Grant, recounted the technical
challenges that he faced distributing
multimedia content from China.
JANUARY 31 Playwriting in a Multi-Media
Context Tim Acito, Yale School of Drama
'02, discussed the complex issues for the
playwright in the development of The
Ankle Diver
JANUARY 8-MARCH 2 Back to the Garden:
Corporate Modernism in Context A
documentary film by Associate Artists
Elihu Rubin and Elena Oxman was a
featured presentation in the Architecture
Gallery Exhibit Saving corporate
modernism.... The video was co-produced
by American Beat and the DMCA.
DECEMBER 15-17 The Ankle Diver A
multimedia dance-theater piece, composed
by Matthew Suttor (Yale Dept. of Music)
and written by Tim Acito (MFA '02 Yale
School of Drama), performed at the New
Theater, Green Hall.
DECEMBER 6 Evoking Body and Mind
Interactive Artist Paul Kaiser presented
his collaborations in virtual dance and
motion capture with choreographers Merce
Cunningham and Shelley Eshkar and
director Robert Wilson and demonstrated
the computer programs he developed to
assist learning disabled children.
NOVEMBER 1 Creating The Ankle Diver
Composer Matthew Sutor demonstrated the
development of his original multimedia
composition.
OCTOBER 17 Hovering Close to Zero Sculptor
Rachel Berwick presented her recent
works.
