Sean McAvoy 11 M.A.R. appointed assistant director of admissions and recruiting

Sean McAvoy ’11 M.A.R. has been appointed assistant director of admissions and recruiting at Yale Divinity School, succeeding Melissa Pucci ’04 M.A.R., who stepped down in the spring to become director of admissions at the Yale School of Nursing.

McAvoy“I am thrilled to have Sean McAvoy join our team in admissions as the new recruiter for YDS,” said Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Anna Ramirez.  “He brings a deep knowledge of the school and an enthusiasm for theological education. Sean has a wonderful wit and will be focusing on web communications, blogging and other ways to reach all our potential students.

During his time as a YDS student, McAvoy worked extensively with the Department of External Relations, serving as student photographer, writing stories for the online e-magazine Notes from the Quad, and conducting telephone solicitations for the YDS Annual Fund.  He also conduced prospect research and, in his final year, served as co-chair of the Senior Class Gift, for which he designed and implemented a multi-pronged, donor-centric strategy, including event planning and donor outreach, resulting in a new record for class participation.

McAvoy joined the Admissions staff just before the start of the new academic year. He earned a B.A. in history and film studies at Boston College and worked at Georgetown University as a writer, editor, and administrative assistant for two years prior to entering YDS.

“I am very excited to be working for the Admissions Office at YDSMcAvoy said.  “My time as a student at YDS was a great one, and I’m looking forward to sharing our wonderful community with the rest of the world.  The Admissions office is known for doing a great job with prospective students, and I'm really looking forward to working with and learning from Anna Ramirez and the rest of the Admissions team.

“The magic of YDS lies in its people, the faculty, students, and staff who come together to make this such a great place. All of our great scholarship and instruction is a natural outgrowth of that alchemical combination, and I am very excited to be a part of recruiting and selecting the next generation of YDS students.”
