There is nothing quite like Convocation and Reunions Week on the Quad!
By Jerry Henry ’80 M.Div.
President, YDS Alumni Board
I enjoy watching alumni as they return to YDS—perhaps for the first time in many years—and smile as they greet fellow classmates, intently study the class photos lining the hallways, and recognize friends who, perhaps, have become older and grayer over the years. It’s a time to renew friendships, celebrate milestones, and uplift the spirit. It’s one of the most exhilarating weeks of the academic year as we worship in Marquand, hear thought-provoking lectures and discussions, and connect with friends, old and new.
Recently, the Alumni Board has renewed its commitment to YDS students and young alumni by introducing an Emerging Alumni Committee, replacing the former Student Relations Committee. Myra McNeil ’08 M.Div. and Allie Perry ’80 M.Div. are co-chairing this exciting new committee, and its members are working to support and engage students about to graduate, and to encourage them after they graduate to stay connected to YDS. The committee is also examining ways that YDS and its alumni can be supportive to recent grads as they enter into ministry and leadership roles around the world.
This year, the Alumni Board is making a strong effort to encourage current students as well as young alumni (2005—2011) to return to campus during Convocation and Reunions week. The combination of recent and older alumni on campus will further enrich Convocation and Reunions with the energy and spirit that are at the heart of the YDS experience—an incredible place where great people, faith, and intellect come together.
Make your plans now to attend Convocation and Reunions 2011, Oct. 10-12. I’ll see you there!
