BDS Alumni welcome Dean Britton in Ghana
In October, Berkeley Divinity School Dean Joseph Britton traveled to Ghana to visit St. Nicholas Seminary in Cape Coast. While there, he delivered the Archbishop LeMaire Memorial Lectures on “Covenant and Communion.”
Victor Atta-Baffoe ’93 S.T.M., dean of St. Nicholas Seminary, serves on a committee responsible for drafting a proposed covenant for the Anglican Communion and had invited Britton to lecture and engage students in dialogue.
Joseph Ayeh ’10 M.A.R., professor of Hebrew and Old Testament, was delighted to welcome Britton and to receive a gift of Hebrew and Greek Bibles on behalf of the St. Nicholas Seminary. Last year, BDS students and staff contributed to the purchase of these much-needed texts.
Heartened by his experience in Ghana, Britton observed, “St. Nicholas Seminary’s commitment to the gospel as it has been shared through the Anglican tradition is palpable, and among students and faculty alike there is a great energy and passion for the work of preparing men and women for service in the church.”
The visit was intended to help lay the groundwork for a closer relationship between the two schools.
