Two 07 graduates selected for special gifts from Alumni Board in Annual Fund drawing

Two members of the Class of 2007, Yun Won Kim ’07 M.Div. and Andrew Nurkin 07 M.Div., have been randomly selected from amongst donors to the 2009-10 Annual Fund to receive special gifts from the YDS Alumni Board Development Committee.  The committee announced the contest as part of its campaign to encourage more Annual Fund giving before the end of the fiscal year.

BookstoreIn a drawing held on July 7, Nurkin was selected for the first-place prize, and Kim was the second-place winner.  The Office of Alumni Relations is in the process of notifying Kim, from Chung-Nam, South Korea, and Nurkin, from Hightstown, NJ, about their good fortune.

John Lindner, director of the Office of External Relations at Yale Divinity School, said, “We are delighted to be able to present these gifts to two alumni—both, coincidentally, from the Class of 2007—as symbols of appreciation to all alumni who generously gave to the Annual Fund in 2009-10.  It is especially fitting that one of the winners is from South Korea, a country that has one of the strongest representations of YDS alumni.”

As the first-place winner, Nurkin will have a choice between a Kindle™ Wireless Reading Device and a set of books by YDS faculty from the YDS Student Book Supply:

  • Calvin by Bruce Gordon (Yale University Press, 2009)
  • Common Worship in Theological Education edited by Siobhán Garrigan and Todd E. Johnson (Wipf and Stock, 2010)
  • A Common Word: Muslims and Christians on Loving God and Neighbor by Miroslav Volf, Ghazi bin Muhammad, and Melissa Yarrington (William B Eerdmans Publishing Company, 2010)

After Nurkin makes his choice of prize, Kim will be awarded the other prize.

The Development Committee is comprised of members Damon Bradley ’68 B.D., Chuck Wildman ’70 B.D., James Evans ’75 M.Div., Jeff Oak ’85 M.Div. ’86 S.T.M., Matt Banks ’01 M.A.R., Jerry Henry ’80 M.Div., chair, and Jessica Anschutz ’07 M.Div., chair of class agents.

While final numbers have yet to be tabulated, by the end of the fiscal year the YDS Annual Fund was at over 90 percent of its goal of $400,000, with about one out of every three alumni making contributions.
