Dean Attridge heads west for Spring Swing
Harold Attridge, the Rev. Henry L. Slack Dean of Yale Divinity School, will visit alumni in the Austin, Houston, Seattle, and Los Angeles areas during a March 9-19 swing through the West.
“Every year I take an opportunity over the spring break to make a trip that will bring me into contact with alums in various parts of the country,” said Attridge, “and I am looking forward very much to this year’s swing through the West.
“For alumni who are unable to get back to campus, this is a great way for them to ‘reconnect’ and hear about the important issues facing YDS,” Attridge noted. “And for me it is a pleasure to be able to catch up with alums and learn what is on their hearts and minds. I anticipate some wonderful gatherings this year.”
The dean’s Spring Swing begins March 9 outside Austin with a 6-8 pm reception hosted by Jake Schrum ’73 M.Div. and his wife, Jane, at The Turner-Fleming House on the Georgetown campus of Southwestern University, where Jake Schrum serves as president.
On March 10, 6-8 pm, the dean will be the guest at a supper in Houston hosted by Debra McLeod Sears ’09 M.Div. and Adam Greene ’09 M.Div., at the home of Greene and his wife, Martha. The following day, March 11, Attridge will deliver a talk to the Yale Club of Houston at Christ Church Cathedral at 7 pm, which will be preceded by a reception at 6:30 pm. The subject of his talk will be recent interactions between the church and secular world.
Plymouth Church (United Church of Christ) in Seattle is the setting for an alumni tea hosted by Brenda J. Stiers ’83 M.Div. the afternoon of Sunday, March 14, 3:30-5:00 pm. That morning the dean will be guest preacher at Plymouth Church at the 11 am service.
The Spring Swing concludes on March 19, when the dean visits with alumni in the Los Angeles area. From 10-11 am he will give a talk at Pilgrim Place in Claremont entitled: “Earth, Wind, Fire and Rain: How scripture challenges our ecological sensibilities.” A reception will follow.
