Recent YDS, BDS graduates, husband and wife, headed to El Salvador
Yale/Berkeley Divinity School graduate Leigh Preston '07 M.Div. and her husband Andy Thompson M.A.R. '06, currently a Yale Ph.D. candidate in ethics) will spend next year working in the Anglican Church in El Salvador as part of the Episcopal Church's "Young Adult Service Corps." The couple made an initial mission trip to the area last summer, supported by a grant from the Seminary Consultation on Mission. While there, they worked alongside the missionary couple Amy Denny '05 M.Div. and Vince Zuniga.
Throughout this academic year, offerings from Berkeley Divinity School's Wednesday evening community Eucharist have helped support Amy and Vince's work with children in several poor congregations—an outreach Berkeley plans to continue with Leigh and Andy. Yet another connection to this work is that new faculty member Willis Jenkins, assistant professor of social ethics, was one of the founders of the Young Adult Service Corps when he worked in the mission office at Episcopal Church headquarters in New York City.
