Jamie Manson, Director of Publications, Leaves YDS to Take Position in NYC Parish

After three years as director of publications at Yale Divinity School, Jamie Manson '02 M.Div. is moving on to a position in New York City —as director of faith information at the Church of St. Francis Xavier, a Jesuit apostolate parish with a commitment to prophetic witness and cutting-edge urban ministry. In her new position, she will oversee faith development programs for adults and children and assist with the outreach programs for GLBT Catholics and the poor and homeless.

“For as long as I can remember,” said Manson, “I have longed to work in an environment like Xavier, applying my gifts of creative theological thinking, teaching, and pastoral ministry to a Catholic parish with a courageous vision for the future. Because of the reactionary oppression and fear currently being inflicted on many progressive Catholic parishes in the U.S., the opportunity to work in such a community is truly once in a lifetime.”

During her three years as director of publications, Manson was instrumental in resurrecting Reflections, a popular journal of religious inquiry and opinion that is distributed to 14,000 readers in the U.S. and abroad, which she will continue to edit during transition. She also developed systems for producing Spectrum, YDS's annual report and year in review, and oversaw publication of the YDS bulletin, fundraising brochures, Convocation and Reunion materials, posters, and the school's viewbook. Under her guidance, YDS adopted a “Standards Guide” for print publications to enhance the YDS identity by giving a consistent “look and feel” to published materials.

John Lindner, director of external relations and development, said, “Jamie is multitalented and very creatively laid the foundations for the Divinity School 's publications. We wish her well in her new ministry. She has been a great friend and colleague.”

During Manson's tenure, major YDS publications have garnered a number of awards for outstanding quality, including The Communicator Creative Award, The Summit Creative Award, and the Marcom Creative Award, and accolades from groups such as the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and The Ad Club of Connecticut.
