Service to be Held in Memory of James E. Annand, retired dean of Berkeley Divinity School

Berkeley Divinity School will offer a commemoration of the life of The Very Rev. James E. Annand, retired dean of the Berkeley Divinity School and associate dean of Yale Divinity School, as part of the Convocation Evensong on Wednesday, October 11, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Marquand Chapel at Yale Divinity School.

Annand died on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006 at his home in Charlestown, RI.

Born in Glendale, CA in 1929, Annand received his BA (1951) from Occidental College in Los Angeles and an STB (1954), STM (1956), and an Honorary Doctorate (1975) from Berkeley Divinity School. He was ordained deacon and later priest by Bishop John S. Higgins of Rhode Island. He served as curate of Christ Church in Westerly, RI; vicar of Holy Spirit in Monterey Park, CA ; rector of Christ Church, Westerly; and rector of St. Paul 's, Riverside, CT.

He became dean of Berkeley and associate dean of YDS in1982. Retiring in 1991, he continued to serve as interim rector in several parishes, including St. Mary's, Warwick Neck, RI; St. Alban's, Simsbury, CT; St. Luke's, Darien, CT; St. Paul's, Fairfield, CT; Trinity, Newport, RI; St. James', New York City; St. Peter's-by-the-Sea, Del Mar, CA; and Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Wilmington, DE.

He is survived by his wife, Connie L. Annand; son David Annand and daughter-in-law Sara Annand; son Paul Annand and daughter-in-law Wendy Mancini; daughter Priscilla Gavin and son-in-law Thom Gavin; and grandchildren Zoe and Michael Gavin.
