Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships are awarded by the Admissions Committee. There is no separate application process. The Admissions Committee determines the top applicants based on the application for admission. There are three Merit Scholarship programs, each of which provides full tuition and a living allowance; The Marquand Scholarship, the Nickerson Scholarship and the William Sloane Coffin, Jr. Scholarship.

The Marquand Scholarship is awarded to the top five M.A.R. and the top five M.Div. applicants, based on exceptional academic achievement, demonstrated leadership ability, and spiritual maturity.

The Nickerson Scholarship is awarded to three Master of Divinity candidates who have indicated they will pursue ordained ministry. Nickerson Scholars are selected for high academic achievement and their commitment to ministry.

The William Sloane Coffin, Jr. Scholarship is awarded to one student based on demonstrated commitment to Coffin's prophetic leadership, his passion for justice, and his critical theological interpretations of the contemporary social and political scene.
