Clarence E. Hardy III

Professor Hardy is the author of James Baldwin's God: Sex, Hope and Crisis in Black Holiness Culture. He has written articles that have appeared in The Journal of Religion, Church History, and The American Quarterly and consider various aspects of black religious culture in the twentieth century. Professor Hardy is especially interested in the evolution of black religious rhetoric in the United States during the interwar and postwar periods. He is currently working on two books that consider how black descriptions of the divine have evolved in the modern period. He has taught American religious history and culture for several years at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.
