Ordained in the United Methodist Church, Professor Kirkham brings to his teaching his extensive pastoral experience in both small and large churches as well as an eight year term as a District Superintendent and a term as Dean of the Cabinet of the New York Annual Conference of the New York Annual Conference. He has previously taught Methodist Studies, Church History and Preaching at Phillips Theological Seminary, Oklahoma.  His research interests focus on early Methodist history and current Methodist polity. He has published articles on Methodist History.
