Five new members were elected to the YDS Board of Alumnal Affairs during the Annual General Meeting of Alumni. Elected to terms expiring in October 2007 were Thomas Duggan '59 B.D., Mary Ellen O'Driscoll '96 M.Div., Timothy Poston '59 B.D., and Marilyn Stavenger '61 M.Div. Gwen Alexis '98 M.A.R. will fill an unexpired term that ends in October 2005. Board members stepping down include Alvord Beardslee, John Branson, Kathryn Gulbranson, Jamie Holmes, Peter Marty, and Hallam Shorrock, Jr.

Gwen Alexis '98 M.A.R., Chester, NJ
Gwen Alexis is a practicing lawyer with membership in the New York, New Jersey and Florida bars. A 1972 graduate of Harvard Law School, she has combined practicing law with teaching throughout her career. She has taught a wide variety of legal subjects and has recently begun teaching courses in contemporary sociology and sociology of religion. After earning an M.A.R. in ethics from YDS in 1998, she earned a Ph.D. in sociology and historical studies from the New School for Social Research in 2003. Her undergraduate degree in business is from the University of Southern California.
Thomas Duggan '59 B.D., Claremont, CA
Thomas Duggan is a retired pastor. In the past five years, he has served as interim pastor of the Claremont Presbyterian Church and has worked on funds development with two organizations: Progressive Christians Uniting, an organization centered on social justice issues in southern California, and the American & Foreign Christian Union, which seeks support for American-oriented congregations in Paris, Berlin and Vienna. Opportunity to Serve is a memoir of the years Duggan served as pastor of the American Church in Paris, and Sermons Abroad is a sampling of the sermons he preached during 25 years serving international congregations.
Timothy Poston '93 M.A.R., Philadelphia, PA
Timothy Poston received a B.A. in religion from Davidson College in 1989, his M.A.R. in historical theology from Yale Divinity in 1993, and his M.Div. from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in 1997. He has served as pastor of Mediator Lutheran Church, a “redevelopment” congregation in North Philadelphia, since the fall of 1997. He serves on the Synod Council for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is dean of the Central Philadelphia Conference of his synod, comprised of 16 congregations located in the heart of the city. He serves on several community boards, including the Urban Theological Institute Council of Advisors of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.
Marilyn Stavenger '61 M.Div., St. Louis, MO
Marilyn Stavenger retired in 2003 as professor of field education and the practice of ministry at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, where she was appointed in 1988. Previous to that, she served for 26 years as pastor at Park Congregational Church (UCC) in Toledo, O. In retirement she continues to teach UCC history and polity at Eden and enjoys travel, gardening, reading, cooking and ministry opportunities at the UCC conference, association and congregation levels. Born on an Ohio farm, she received her B.A. from Hiram College, her B.D. from YDS in 1961, and a D. Min. from San Francisco Theological Seminary.
