Gooden, Winston E. '73 M.Div.

Winston E. Gooden, Ph.D., dean and associate professor of psychology, joined the faculty of Fuller’s School of Psychology in 1984, after having served on the Psychology faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago for four years. From 1995 until his appointment to the deanship in 2000, he has served as associate dean in the School of Psychology.

 

After completing a B.A. degree in Philosophy at Muskingum College, he earned an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School and a Ph.D. in Clinical/Community Psychology from Yale University.

 

Beginning with his dissertation on adult development among black men, Dr. Gooden has researched the developmental crises and transitions of early and middle adulthood. His work in this area has been published in a number of journal articles and book chapters. His most recent work examines the relationship between shame, intimacy, and attachment among married couples of various ethnic backgrounds. He has also written articles and taught seminars on adult attachment and the place of faith in leadership. He is an active member of the American Psychological Association and the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology.

 

Dr. Gooden has maintained a private practice in clinical psychology in Pasadena since 1984.

 

He is married to Kumea Shorter-Gooden, also a psychologist. Together they have one daughter, Adia.
