Nicholas Beasley ’00 M.Div. continues as rector of Church of the Resurrection in Greenwood, in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina. He serves on the diocesan Standing Committee and as a member of its Formation Faculty. In 2008, he taught history in a summer program at the University of the South (Sewanee) and finalized a book contract with the University of Georgia Press. His book Christian Ritual and the Creation of British Slave Societies, 1650-1780 examines Anglican liturgy in colonial Barbados, South Carolina, and Jamaica and will appear in 2009 in the press's series on race in the Atlantic world.

 

 

Tom Synan ’00 M.Div., Church of Heavenly Rest, was recently made an official Honorary Chaplain of the New York City Fire Department. Fire Commissioner Scoppetta swore him in this May 2008.

 

Cynthia Willauer ’00 M.Div. turned 60 after graduation from YDS. Since then she has led 9:00 a.m. services at the South Lyme Union Chapel, a small chapel associated with the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, UCC. Four seminarians have served the chapel in recent years; and each has greatly enriched community worship while strengthening pastoral and prophetic skills needed to grow a congregation in faith.

Nicholas Beasley ’00 M.Div. completed a Ph.D. in History at Vanderbilt University in 2006 and was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Religious Practices and Practical Theology at the Candler School of Theology at Emory for 2006-2007. He is now rector of a parish Greenwood, SC, in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina. He and Elizabeth have a son William, born in July 2007.

Erin K. Carter ’00 M.A.R. married Fred Danowski III on June 9, 2007 at Zion's Hill United Methodist Church in Wilton, CT.  Leann Pace Moyer ’00 M.A.R. was a participant in the ceremony.  They honeymooned in St. Maarten, and now reside in Norwalk, CT.  Erin is an interactive marketing manager at Ryan iDirect in Wilton, CT, while her husband serves as the information systems librarian for Milford Public Library in Milford, CT.

 

David J. Powell ’00 S.T.M. organized the Asian Pacific Institute on Addictions in Singapore in ’04 and ’06, and the China Symposium on Addictions in Beijing, Shanghai, and Kunming China, Feb.  through April, 2007. David also oversaw training on addictions in Kathmandu, Nepal, Thimpu, Bhutan and Singapore in 2007. As a result of these efforts, Alcoholics Anonymous (in Mandarin) celebrated its 7th anniversary in China on July 25th, 2007. David and his wife Barbara return to Asia in 2008 to continue the training and development of 12 step programs in Nepal and China.
