From the Registrar’s Office Concerning Transcripts: Notice about Transcript Requests from the Registrar's Office:  Students requesting transcripts to be sent the month of December, please have your request in to the Registrar's office (Seabury, 1st floor) no later than Monday, December 17.  After that date there is no guarantee that the request can be filled before the winter recess.

 

From the Registrar's Office Concerning Advising for Next Term: November 26-December 7 has been set aside for students to meet with their faculty advisers to discuss how the year has been going and to start thinking about course selection for spring.  So set up a time with your adviser.

December 4, 2007.  The Initiative on Religion and Politics (IRaP) presents the award-winning documentary New Year Baby (2004).  [www.newyearbaby.net]  It is a “gripping portrayal of a family's struggle to overcome the traumatic legacies of the Khmer Rouge. The film unfolds with remarkable candor, humor, and a heartbreaking intensity that captures a daughter's quest to understand her family's history and a father's willingness to lay open his vulnerabilities by confronting his past.”  The screening will be followed by a discussion with director/producer Socheata Poeuv, whose quest the film memorializes.  Time: 5:00 p.m.  Location: Niebuhr Hall.

Talk on Calvin: The Office of Diversity is sponsoring a talk enitled, “Paradoxes in the anthropology of John Calvin (or the dialectics in Renaissance thinkers’ views on human nature)” on Wednesday, November 28th in HGS 401.  Dinner is provided. 

 

Panel Debate on Issues in Diversity: As part of a new series on diversity, the inaugural panel debate will be held on the topic of, “The Value and Future of Diversity in the 21st Century.  This will be a spirited discussion on the philosophical, cultural, and political uses of “diversity” in academia, politics, and culture featuring Vijay Vijay Prashad and Peter Schuck.  This event will be held on November 27th at 6:15, HGS 211.  Dinner will be provided.

Needed/Lost and Found:

 

Cell Phones and Laptops Needed for OMSC: As you know we have been trying to provide some extra special hospitality for the five Brumese pastors/leaders that are in residence this year at the Overseas Mission Center.  They are wonderful folks-- both studying hard, and traveling quite a bit to tell the stories of Christian work and situation in Burma these days.  Because they are in so many congregations weekly they are in desperate need of a cell phone and service, as well as a laptop or two.  I am wondering if you might know someone who could be led to provide one of these to them?  If so perhaps you will let me know and I could arrange for a connection to be made.  Thanks for any help you might know of.  Thanksgiving blessings, Linda Snyder (llsnyder01@yahoo.com)

 

Temporary Work Opportunity: I'm heading to South America in a couple weeks and I'm looking for someone who can cover for me while I'm gone. I work for a family on the Hamden/New Haven border. The dad is a professor at the Law school and he has two sons, one 18-year-old and one 12-year-old. Both the boys are incredibly polite, independent and well-behaved.  All you would need to do is drive the kids to or from school. You would be provided with a car to use (a zippy little eggplant Lexus) as well as gas money and precise directions.  If you could cover all the days, I expect the pay would be around $300, maybe more, really easy money just in time for the holidays!  Even if you can't do all the days, but could do 1/2 or more of them, feel free to respond as well. Something would be better than nothing!  Here are the specifics:  The main dates are Dec. 6th through the 14th.

Thursday, Dec. 6: Take Julian (18-year-old) to school in New Haven at 7:10am. Pick up Alec (12-year-old) in New Canaan at 4pm.

Friday, Dec. 7: Take Julian to school at 7:10am. Pick up Alec in New Canaan at 4pm.

Monday, Dec. 10: This is a maybe. Julian may need a ride to school at 7:10.

Wednesday, Dec. 12: Pick up Alec at school or in downtown New Canaan at 2 or 3.

Thursday, Dec. 13: Take Julian to school at 7:10. Pick up Alec at school at 4pm.

Friday, Dec. 14: Take Julian to school at 7:10.

Monday, Dec. 17: This is a maybe. Julian may need to be driven somewhere in the afternoon. On call (4 hours?)

Thursday, Dec. 20: Another maybe. Alec may need to be picked up at 4:00 at his mom's house in Darien.

For Sale: new Jabra Bluetooth Headset (model no. VBT135Z):  Price: $20.  Here's why...After getting pulled over on Whitney Ave. for listening to my messages on my cell phone, I decided to take the officer's advice and buy a Bluetooth Headset to use with my Motorola phone. So, I went to the Verizon store and bought a Jabra Bluetooth Headset for $40, which I then promptly lost.  After about a month the headset still hadn't reappeared, so last week I bought another one, exactly the same, another $40.  Today, as I was cleaning my room, I discovered my original headset.  ARGH! I went back to the Verizon store to try to return one of them, but since I did not have the receipt and because I had taken it out of the packaging, they wouldn't do it. ARGH again!  So, I'm looking to sell. I'll give you 50% off what I paid for it.  It's never been used. I have the little manual, the charger, everything.
