The Thain Family Café

paniniThe Thain Family Café at Bass Library is a joint project of the Library, the Yale Sustainable Food Project, and Yale University Dining Services. Its mission is to bring good-tasting, environmentally sound, and reasonably-priced food to the center of Yale’s campus.

Because we believe that the most satisfying food is grown and produced with the health of both people and the land in mind, we sourced our products and ingredients carefully.

  • Our breakfast pastries and breads come from local, family owned bakeries.
  • Our espresso bar drinks use organic Fair Trade shade grown coffee and organic chocolate.
  • We sell only organic teas and milk.
  • We chose bottled drinks that are made with real ingredients.
  • We fill our sandwiches and salads with produce from local organic farms whenever possible.
  • All the meat we serve is hormone and antibiotic free, when beef is served it is raised on pasture.

When you eat in the Café, we will serve you on china; for take-away items, we use biodegradable serving ware whenever possible.

Our simple, satisfying food is made fresh from scratch every day. We hope that the Café will become your home as you work, study, or linger over a sandwich or a hot drink with friends.
