Meal Plan Options

Undergraduate Meal Plans - Your Fall choice automatically becomes your Spring choice unless you request a change within the first 2 weeks of the spring term.

Anytime Meal Plan

  • Unlimited number of meal swipes for cardholder at Yale College residential dining halls and Commons ONLY.
  • If you choose to transfer a lunch to a Retail Dining Facility (Divinity Cafe, Kline Cafe, Marigolds, SOM, Durfee's, and uncommon) you will be able to do so provided it is the first swipe of the lunch meal period, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Furthermore a lunch swipe at a retail location will be the only swipe permitted until the dinner meal period begins at 5:00 pm. Transferring a swipe to a retail location cancels the ability to repeat swipe in Yale College and Commons for the rest of that meal period.
  • Swiping at any residential dining hall before going to a retail facility cancels the ability to transfer that meal to any retail location.
  • $70 per semester in Dining Points to spend at Durfee’s, uncommon & other locations such as SOM, KBT, Marigolds, Divinity, and Blue Dog Cafe at HGS’ McDougal Center. Dining Points carry over from Fall to Spring only.

As a Swing Dorm resident, you receive an additional $75 per semester in Dining Points.

Transfer Policies

Transfer rules and restricted hours vary by location. In Yale College, transfer policies are part of the Masters’ responsibilities in each residential college. Please check with either the Dining Hall Manager or Desk Attendant/Cashier for current restrictions affecting an individual undergraduate dining facility.

Graduate School meal plan holders are restricted from transferring to an undergraduate dining hall whenever the College Master designates the meal as “Family Night”, usually on Sundays, and whenever "college only" special events are held. Access to the undergraduate colleges via the security gates is not automatically granted to graduate students; special permission must be sought from the Master.

Undergraduate Meal Plan Holders are prohibited from transferring to:

Donaldson Commons at SOM — from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm
HGS Dining Hall — after 6:15 pm

A lunch swipe at a retail location will be the only swipe permitted for that meal period regardless of the meal plan. You may not swipe again at residential dining halls till the dinner period, which starts at 5:00 pm. The cash equivalency for a board meal lunch transfer is $7.00.

Holders of the Anytime Meal Plan may transfer one swipe per meal period to to a retail dining facility. An Anytime Meal Plan holder who transfers a meal to a retail location loses the ability to double swipe at Yale College and Commons for the rest of that meal period.

Double Swiping Policy

Yale Dining meal plan privileges are not transferable. Double swipe is a repeat privilege for undergraduate meal plan holders during the LUNCH PERIOD ONLY IN YALE COLLEGE AND COMMONS Dining Halls. Double swipes are for the bearer of the card only and cannot be transferred to another.

Undergraduate meal plan holders will be permitted to use a repeat swipe at a residential college dining room or Commons only if the first swipe of the lunch period was at a residential (board) location.

Rebates of Board charges for Yale College Students

Rebates for board charges are governed by the Undergraduate Regulations.

Rebates of Board charges for Graduate and Professional Students

Graduate and Professional School students, who have a required board meal plan, may request an exemption only from the Dean of Student Affairs or Director of Student Services at their school. In general, rebates to Graduate and Professional students are given for strictly academic reasons, i.e., 14 continuous days or more of absence for conducting research during the academic term when meals are served. No board rebate will be granted to a student during a period of absence from the University, if that absence is less than two weeks. After that, and if the absence is approved by the Graduate and Professional School Dean of Student Affairs or equivalent, the student will receive a board rebate equal to one-half the daily rate for each board day so approved.
