Transfer Policies

Transfer rules and restricted hours vary by location. In Yale College, transfer policies are part of the Masters’ responsibilities in each residential college. Please check with either the Dining Hall Manager or Desk Attendant/Cashier for current restrictions affecting an individual undergraduate dining facility.

Graduate School meal plan holders are restricted from transferring to an undergraduate dining hall whenever the College Master designates the meal as “Family Night”, often on Sundays, and whenever "college only" special events are held. Access to the undergraduate colleges via the security gates is not automatically granted to graduate students; special permission must be sought from the Master.

Undergraduate Meal Plan Holders are prohibited from transferring to:

Donaldson Commons at SOM — from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm

HGS Dining Hall — after 6:15 pm

Meal transfers to retail facilities

Meal Plan Holders who choose to transfer a lunch to a Retail Dining Facility (Divinity Cafe, Kline Cafe, Law, Marigolds & SOM only, excludes all other retail locations) will be able to do so provided it is the first swipe of the lunch meal period, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. A lunch swipe at a retail location will be the only swipe permitted for that meal period. You may not swipe again at residential dining halls till the dinner period, which starts at 5:00 pm. The cash equivalency for a board meal lunch transfer is $7.00.

Holders of the Anytime Meal Plan may transfer one swipe per meal period to Divinity Cafe, Kline Cafe, Law, Marigolds & SOM only. An Anytime Meal Plan holder who transfers a meal to a retail location loses the ability to double swipe at Yale College and Commons for the rest of that meal period.

Double Swiping Policy

Yale Dining meal plan privileges are not transferable. Double swipe is a repeat privilege for undergraduate meal plan holders during the LUNCH PERIOD ONLY IN YALE COLLEGE AND COMMONS Dining Halls. Double swipes are for the bearer of the card only and cannot be transferred to another.

Undergraduate meal plan holders will be permitted to use a repeat swipe at a residential college dining room or Commons only if the first swipe of the lunch period was at a residential (board) location.
