Soup Kitchen |
We are involved. We participate. We donate significant amounts of food to various food distribution centers or directly to local soup kitchens. We assist a variety of educational and training programs with job placements in the Dining Rooms. We all win in the process. |
Hillhouse High School,
Food Tech Program:
Selected Dining Rooms assist in vocational training of high school students who require fulltime special education. Training assignments both in the kitchen and interacting with students in the dining rooms.

| Cooking 101 |
You are a senior who is graduating in one month. Your new, wonderful job begins in two weeks after graduation and you are apartment hunting in the big city of your choice.
Hey! All these apartments, even the efficiencies, have kitchens! What the heck do you need a kitchen for? Where's the microwave? All the places you've looked at have these things called stoves. What in the world are you supposed to do with that thing? And aren't refrigerators meant to store sneakers? You don't need a seperate room for a refrigerator, do you? |
Well folks, Cooking 101 is designed to eliminate the mystery, or fear, of the dreaded kitchen. In just four evening sessions held in the kitchen of a Dining Room, the Executive Chef and his assistants will shed light on the darkness surrounding builing, baking, chopping, shopping, serving and eating. Discover how you too can impress your friends rather than terrifying them, by setting part of the meal on fire, but only if you call it a "flambe"! |
| Recipes From Home |
Creativity is the hallmark of our team. Chef's Choice entrees and Kitchen Confection
desserts are a great way for them to present delicious recipes to the
students in every dining room on a regular basis.
Express Yourself! |
Indulge in the comforts of home from miles away! Parents & friends are invited to send our Executive Chef a student's favorite recipe. If the Dining Room can prepare the item in large quantities, it will appear on the individual college menu in the spring. What better way to enjoy old-time specialties and special family treats when you are so many miles away from home & hearth. |

The Dining Services team loves to demonstrate their culinary talents and sense of fun by producing a theme event each semester. These are gastronomic and decorative feasts with local and international flair. The fall "Whistle Stop Tour" took our students on a cross-country train ride with tasty food rest-stops along the way.
Spring Them events transported students to several exotic locations and even some familiar, comfortable locales. A pie-eating contest turned into a pie-throwing melee. One of the dining rooms was transformed into the famous "Dinosaur BBQ Restaraunt" in downtown, Syracuse, New York. No matter where the fantasy theme was experienced, all the colleges were fabulously decorated and deliciously served. |
