Road Race (April 20th)

The day began with an early jaunt to Bear Mountain under beautiful skies. After the collective fusion of Yale cars on one side of the parking lot (the cool side), the Men's C riders of Bryan (1st), Ryan Q (6th), and Dan C dashed off the line for a 40-mile race. All three mixed it up throughout the day until the end of lap 2/3 when Dan C decided to introduce himself to the road by gracefully ejecting himself off the front of his suddenly stem-less bike face-first. All is good now, so no worries. Bryan and Ryan Q continued to tear it up on the road, with Bryan capping his debut season with a spectacular win. Ryan Q jammed his pedal to the metal and gunned in right with Bryan for 6th score. Great work by these two C men… all first year racers, all first year students. Hmm… coincidence?

Behind the C men entered the Men's D squad of Ben Elder (19th) and Jean-Paul (28th). For Jean-Paul, only his third race. Still learning the ropes and rigors of road racing, but getting all those races under his belt. For Ben Elder, his debut of this season. Sudden whimsical prediction: look for him at the end of season party (tongue in cheek and a smile too). The Women's B team of Nicolette (21st) busted loose on the road course with her new bike. Always smiling and always upbeat, the happy element of the peloton. But underneath that innocent smile… an untapped machine other teams can only dream about.

Men's B squad of Chris McPhee rode strong throughout the 55-mile race, but a mechanical mishap in the form of a disobedient tire prevented him from whipping out his can of whoop ass. In Women's A, the Yale peloton of Amanda (5th), Marissa (10th), Reilly (11th), and Catherine (14th) took top honors and owned Bear Mountain. Marissa decided to go cyclo-cross for a wee bit, but shook off that urge to return and finish in the top ten. Amanda stretched her legs for a 5th place (saving it up!), while Reilly pulled out one of her California cans of whoop ass to score major points for Yale. Catherine braved the A-field to also score vital points for Yale. She'll be ready for tri season no problem. The Men's A team of Ryan B (19th) scored for Yale, racing tough and doing Yale proud in the A peloton.

Criterium (April 21st)

In Men's C, Bryan (2nd) rode swiftly and dusted the competition in the criterium to win the overall omnium for the weekend. This guy is only a frosh! Needless to say, Bryan is going to be spectacular in his next three years. But let's get back to the present. We still can't believe he's only a frosh. A frosh! In Women's A, Marissa took over with a 5th place finish. Reilly finished close behind in a fantastic 11th with Catherine a-rockin' at 15th.

Team Time Trial (April 21st)

In Men's B, the team time trialists (Chris McPhee, Bryan, Ryan Q, Cam) rode hard to finish 5th, only 36 seconds back to the first team. In Women's A, the Yale squad (Amanda, Marissa, Reilly, Catherine) squashed the competition, winning 1st by almost a minute (without aerobars and zilch practice!). In Men's A, Yale's team won 3rd overall, 1st in Division II. The stacked squad was composed of Casey, Rob, Pete, and Ryan B. Rock on to all the riders in this race of truth… a perfect illustration of the team element in cycling.
