| Biographical sketch: Still in withdrawal from high school sports, a chronically injured runner looking for a gentler activity, a big fan of endorphins and a bit of a masochist, I decided to finally join the cycling team this year after two years of psyching myself out of it. I did the STP (Seattle to Portland) two summers ago on a hybrid and though I almost killed myself in mile one, I loved it. Since then, I've lusted after road bikes and wondered if biking might be an alternative to running - a chance to relieve stress, find out how hard I can work, get sweaty hugs, spend time outdoors, burn tons of calories, wear impressive-looking gear without getting injured. No major racing ambitions for the year (though I would like to try a triathlon) - I mostly want to learn about bikes and biking, meet some good people, and have fun. |
