he Old Campus is the historic heart of the university. A large, rectangular yard surrounded by freshmen dorms, it is filled with students playing soccer, touch football and frisbees on warm, sunny days. Also on old campus is the beautiful, neo-Gothic Dwight Chapel, previously the university's main library. Today it is the venue for many a performance of Yale's famed a cappella groups. Architecturally, Old Campus is distinguished by the presence of original Neo-Georgian and Romanesque buildings. Old Campus opens out to New Haven's expansive Green through Phelps Gate.
