This card is required whether or not one is planning to attend the May 26 Commencement ceremony. The card is available only online, and the deadline for submission is May 1, 2008.     Graduate School Convocation, Hall of Graduate Studies (HGS) courtyard tent, 320 York Street.

This ceremony, presided over by Dean Jon Butler, features the awarding of student prizes and the graduate faculty mentor awards. It also includes an address by a notable alumnus or alumna.

All degree candidates and their guests are encouraged to attend. No tickets are needed, and academic regalia is not required.

      Presentation of diplomas in Woolsey Hall, corner of Prospect and College Streets.
 
Diplomas for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Arts,* Master of Science, and Master of Engineering are awarded by the Dean and faculty representatives from each department or program.
 
All degree candidates must fill out Commencement attendance cards indicating whether or not they will attend the diploma ceremony. The attendance card is available only online and may be accessed here.
The deadline for submission of attendance cards is May 1, 2008. Degree candidates who do not respond by this date may not be able to be included in the diploma ceremony, or may not be able to sit with their departments.
 
Degree candidates will sit in the orchestra section by department or degree program and will be called to the stage individually to receive a diploma from the Dean. Guests may find seats on the sides and in the balconies. No tickets are required either for degree candidates or guests. The handicapped-accessible entrance to Woolsey Hall is via Beinecke Plaza.
 
*Students receiving master's degrees from the Yale Macmillan Center for International & Area Studies and the Economic Growth Center receive their diplomas in a ceremony held at Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Avenue. Included are master's candidates in African Studies, East Asian Studies, International & Development Economics, International Relations, and Russian & East European Studies. A complimentary luncheon and reception for YCIAS graduates and guests immediately follows in Luce Hall.
 
Professional photographs will be taken of each student receiving a diploma, at both the Woolsey Hall and Luce Hall diploma ceremonies. Commencement Photos, a commercial service, will mail degree candidates information about purchasing their photos. Candidates may also contact Commencement Photos directly to inquire.

The diploma ceremony will be held in Caulkins Courtyard, 135 Prospect Street. No tickets are required.

Professional photographs will be taken of each student receiving a diploma. Commencement Photos, a commercial service, will send degree candidates information about purchasing their photos. Candidates may also contact Commencement Photos directly to inquire.

An optional box lunch will be available following the ceremony. Reservations will be accepted beginning in late April; guests should make arrangements through their graduating friend or relative.

In case of severe weather, the diploma ceremony will be moved to Woolsey Hall (corner of Grove & College Streets) and will begin at approximately 3.00 pm.

    The School of Medicine diploma ceremony will be held outdoors in the courtyard of Edward S. Harkness Hall under a large tent.

In the event of extremely severe weather, the diploma ceremony will move to Mary S. Harkness Auditorium, but with very limited access. Harkness Hall is located at 367 Cedar Street, and Mary S. Harkness Auditorium is located in the Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar Street.

    Following the ceremony, at approximately 1:45 pm, there will be a reception in Edward S. Harkness Hall for the graduates, their family and friends. Tickets are required for both the diploma ceremony and reception, with each degree candidate receiving a total of eight free tickets (one for the candidate plus seven for guests).

Ticket distribution, beginning in late April, will be coordinated between students and the School of Medicine's Office of Student Affairs. Guests should not contact the School of Medicine directly for tickets; rather, they should make arrangements through their graduating friend or relative. Questions about the School of Medicine Commencement activities may be referred to the School of Medicine's Office of Student Affairs, 203 785-2644.
