The GSAS diploma ceremony will be videotaped and streamed on the Commencement website homepage. Friends and family members who cannot attend the diploma ceremony are encouraged to view the ceremony online.
Diplomas for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy,
Master of Arts,* Master of Science, and Master of Engineering are
awarded by the Dean and faculty representatives from each department
or program.
All degree candidates must fill out Commencement attendance forms
indicating whether or not they will attend the diploma ceremony. The attendance
form is available only online and may be accessed here.
The deadline for submission of attendance forms is May 1. Degree
candidates who do not respond by this date may not be able to be included
in the diploma ceremony, or may not be able to sit with their departments.
Degree candidates will sit in the orchestra section by department
or degree program and will be called to the stage individually to
receive a diploma from the Dean. Guests may find seats on the sides
and in the balconies. No tickets are required either for degree candidates
or guests. The handicapped-accessible entrance to Woolsey Hall is
via Beinecke Plaza.
*Students receiving master's degrees from the Yale MacMillan Center for International
& Area Studies and the Economic Growth Center receive their
diplomas in a ceremony held at Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Avenue. Included
are master's candidates in African Studies, East Asian Studies, International
& Development Economics, International Relations, and European and Russian Studies. A complimentary luncheon and reception for YCIAS
graduates and guests immediately follows in Luce Hall.
Professional photographs will be taken of each student receiving a
diploma, at both the Woolsey Hall and Luce Hall diploma ceremonies.
Commencement Photos, a commercial service, will mail degree candidates
information about purchasing their photos. Candidates may also contact Commencement
Photos directly to inquire.
