Tongjia, or Alex, is a doctoral student in Classics and Philosophy. Before coming to Yale, he read Classics, Philosophy, and Intellectual History at the University of Pennsylvania, where he wrote his undergraduate thesis on Plato's Symposium and Phaedrus. He graduated summa cum laude and was awarded the Senior Classics Prize.
Still exploring the fascinating world of classics at this stage of his graduate career, Alex is interested in ancient philosophy, tragedy (especially Sophocles), and the history of Greek and Roman political thought. He also has secondary interests in early modern philosophy and classical Chinese prose.
