Did you know that your new home town has one of the finest park systems of any city its size; an amazing collection of buildings by leading architects; one of America's best 100 public spaces at its center; a booming biotechnology industry; the largest and best collection of museums between Boston and New York; thriving retail districts and an array of restaurants from Malaysian to Italian, not to mention the first and finest pizza and hamburger?
As part of the freshman orientation, the Yale Office of New Haven and State Affairs offers CityScape, which traditionally provides incoming students with an overview of New Haven through a guided bus tour of the City fallowed by a reception.
In light of Tropical Storm Irene, we will be modifying the CityScape program this year to provide a brief tour, which the primary focus centered on helping the City clean up some of its most treasured parks. As the newest members to the Yale community, we invite you to assist in these efforts. We will work with Yale's Urban Resource Initiative and the community to clean New Haven parks of fallen debris and other impacts from the storm. We will conclude the afternoon with an ice-cream social.
This will be a terrific opportunity to
strengthen
your sense of community among your new classmates and your new city while contributing to an important and needed civic endeavor.
Come prepared! It may be warm outside, but sticks can scratch. Closed-toed shoes, long pants, and long sleeved shirts are recommended. Gloves will on-hand, but bring your own if you have them.
