Driving Directions to Conference Location

The following directions will take you to Linsly-Chittenden Hall, the conference venue. LC Hall is located at 63 High Street, one building down from the corner of High and Chapel Streets in New Haven, CT. If you ever get lost on campus, consult the Yale Campus Map or ask a student for directions.

Interstate 95
From the North: Turn off I-95 at I-91 North exit (Hartford, Springfield exit) and continue for a short distance on I-91 to Exit 3 (Trumbull Street). Stay in the middle lane and continue straight through the light on to Trumbull Street. At the fourth light, turn left on to Prospect Street. At the first light, Prospect Street becomes College Street. Continue on College Street for two blocks and make a right on to Chapel Street. At the first light, make a right on to High Street. LC Hall will be the second building on the right.
From the South: Take exit 49, I-91 North (Hartford, Springfield exit). Continue for a short distance on I-91 to Exit 3 (Trumbull Street). Interstate 91
From North and South: Take Exit 3 (Trumbull Street). Stay in the middle lane and continue straight through the light on to Trumbull Street. At the fourth light, turn left on to Prospect Street. At the first light, Prospect Street becomes College Street. Continue on College Street for two blocks and make a right on to Chapel Street. At the first light, make a right on to High Street. LC Hall will be the second building on the right.

Route 15 (Wilbur Cross/Merrit Highways)
From North: Take Exit 61. Drive south on Whitney Avenue for approximately 5 miles. Shortly after the intersection with Sachem Street, the road will split. Stay to the right and you will be on Temple Street. Make a right on to Chapel Street. Make another right on to High Street. LC Hall will be the second building on the right.
From South: Take Exist 57. Drive east on Route 34 (Derby Avenue) for five miles until you reach the fork of Derby Avenue and George Street (3 blocks after the athletic fields). Bear right on to George Street. Continue to York Street. Make a left on to York Street and then a right on to Crown Street. Continue to High Street and make a left. After one block, you will cross Chapel Street. LC Hall will be the second building on the right.

Getting to New Haven

By Air: If you are flying to Hartford, Newark, LaGuardia, or JFK, you can take the Connecticut Limo into New Haven. To reserve, please visit http://www.ctlimo.com/ or call them at 1-800-472-LIMO. If you are coming to New Haven Tweed Airport, a taxi will take you straight to Yale campus for around $10.

By Train: If you are taking a train into Union Station, you can hop on a bus to get to Downtown New Haven. The J bus runs regularly back and forth from the station to Downtown (the New Haven Green), and costs only $1. For bus schedules, see http://www.cttransit.com/content/routesNewHaven.asp. You can also take a taxi.

Parking

If you are staying at one of the hotels in Downtown New Haven, you’ll want to keep your car parked in their parking lots.

Otherwise, on Saturdays, there is free parking on Chapel Street (from College to Park) on both sides of the road.

You can also purchase 12 hour parking vouchers from the New Haven Free Public Library (on the corner of Temple and Elm) or Atticus Books (on the corner of Chapel and High) among other places. These vouchers will allow you to park in the street anywhere where there is a 12-hour limit (the right side of Grove St from College to the Payne Whitney Gym or the left side of Park St in the block between Elm and Edgewood).

Downtown New Haven (near campus)
Colony Inn – (203) 776-1234. 1157 Chapel St (5-10 minute walk from event). $107 and up. Parking is available.
Holiday Inn at Yale – (203) 777-6221. 30 Whalley Ave (10-20 minute walk from event). $109 and up. Note: You must pay extra for parking here.
Omni New Haven Hotel – 1 800 THE-OMNI. 155 Temple St (5-10 minute walk form event). $125 and up. Note: this hotel is largely agreed upon to be the most luxurious in New Haven. Parking is available.
Hotel Duncan – (203) 787-1273. 1151 Chapel St (5-10 minute walk from event). $44 and up. This hotel is old (the elevator is manual), but it is a nice stay and very affordable (especially for students). If you are a student and will not have a car at the conference, this is probably your best bargain.

Outside Downtown:

*Yorkside Pizza and Restaurant – (203) 787-7471. 288 York St. Greasy spot with not much non-meat selection (eggplant parmesan subs, fish…).
*Naples Pizza – (203) 776-9021. 90 Wall St (in between Temple and College).
*A One Pizza on Broadway – (203) 865-8888. 21 Broadway. Small 24-hour spot serves breakfast all day, Turkish Muslim owners.
*Brick Oven Pizza – (203) 777-4444. 122 Howe St (corner of Howe and Elm). Another Turkish-owned pizza store. Not zabiha, but they don’t use pork.

Chinese:
*Ivy Noodle – (203) 562-9933. 316 Elm St (corner of Elm and Park). Cheap and delicious noodle spot, many seafood options.
*Royal Palace – (203) 776-6663. 32 Orange St. Authentic Chinese cuisine, pretty expensive though, prices are above $10.

Korean/Japanese:
*Seoul Restaurant – (203) 497-9634. 343 Crown St (between York and Park). Korean restaurant with some Japanese food, dinner prices range from $9-$25.
*Samurai – (203) 562-6766. 230 College St (between Chapel and Crown). Expensive Japanese spot, sushi and whatnot.

Southeast Asian:
*Thai Taste – (203) 776-9802. 1151 Chapel St. (under the Hotel Duncan). Mid-range Thai spot, well-loved by many Yale people and New Haveners alike.
*Bangkok Gardens – (203) 789-8684. 172 York St (corner of York and Chapel). The most expensive of the Thai restaurants, but arguably the best.
*Indochine Pavilion – (203) 865-5033. 1180 Chapel St (corner of Chapel and Park). Mid-range Thai spot with other Southeast Asian cuisine. $5.50 lunch buffet.
*Pad Thai – (203) 562-0322. 1170 Chapel St (in between York and Park). Mid-range Thai spot.
*Thai Pan-Asian – (203) 624-9869. 1150 Chapel St (in between York and Park). Mid-range Thai spot, with some other Southeast Asian cuisine. $5.95 lunch buffet.
Bentara – (203) 562-2511. 76 Orange St. High-class Malaysian restaurant.

South Asian:

*Zaroka – (203) 776-8644. 148 York St (between Crown and Chapel). Reputed as the best Indian food in New Haven, also the most expensive.

*Moghuli Kings Food Truck – Halal food truck that usually parks at the corner of Prospect and Trumbull streets.

Middle Eastern:
*Mamoun’s Falafel Restaurant – (203) 562-8444. 85 Howe St (between Chapel and Edgewood).
*Chap’s Grille – (203) 562-3966. 1174 Chapel St (corner of Chapel and Park). Egyptian spot with American menu, and vegetarian and Egyptian dishes.
*The Orginal Falafel – (203) 777-8884. 240 College St (between Crown and Chapel).

African:
Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant – (203) 789-1232. 176 Temple St. (between Crown and Chapel). Ethiopian cuisine.

Soul Food:
Sandra’s Place – (203) 787-4535. 46 Whitney Ave. Classy Soul Food spot, prices over $10.
Jaylyn’s Fried Chicken – (203) 777-6613. 177 Park St. (corner of Park and Chapel). Fried chicken and waffles, shrimp as well (greens cooked without pork).

Mexican:
The Whole Enchilada – (203) 772-4454. 21 Whitney Ave. Healthy Mexican, vegetarian Mexican.
*Villa Del Sol – (203) 785-1577. 236 Crown St (corner of Crown and College). Despite being on the corner of one of the busiest night-areas in the city, this restaurant has a festive atmosphere and serves shrimp alternatives.
